Converting 2007 Program and User Settings
If the 2007 version of T4 TimeSaver is installed on your computer, and you wish to maintain the configuration you set up last year, you can have the installation program copy the settings. When the "Copy Last Year's Configuration" dialogue appears, click Browse or Search to locate the 2007 T4 TimeSaver directory.
If you install the 2008 program without copying the configuration settings, you may still convert the 2007 settings by copying some files from your 2007 program directory to your 2008 directory BEFORE STARTING T4 TIMESAVER FOR THE FIRST TIME. The following files must be copied:
All .INI files whose filename ends in "07" (*07.INI). This
will include T4W07.INI, plus Single07.INI (for single user
If you do not copy the settings from last year, then T4 TimeSaver will start up with default settings.
T4 TimeSaver for Windows is designed for and tested on the following Windows platforms: Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Installing T4 TimeSaver
If you downloaded the install file (T4SETUP.EXE) from the Internet, simply run it and follow the instructions. If you are installing from a CD, insert the CD and wait a few seconds for the setup program to start up. If it does not start automatically, run d:T4SETUP.EXE (replacing d: with the drive letter of your CD drive). Follow the on-screen instructions.
Install T4 TimeSaver on workstations using your network
Copying the installation files
to your network drive makes workstation
installation much quicker and easier. Just copy
the contents of the CD to a network drive.
Then, at each workstation, run T4SETUP.EXE from
the directory on the network, selecting
Installing and running T4 TimeSaver on your network
If you want to run T4 TimeSaver from more than one workstation, it is recommended that you install the program on a network drive and run it from there. This is the simplest way to install the software and it also simplifies subsequent program updates. The executable program (T4W08.EXE) and supporting files will only be installed on the network drive. Select "Network Administrator" as the type of installation and complete the installation to a network drive. Then, run T4NODE.EXE from each workstation to install the system files on the workstation. A shortcut will be created on the workstation's desktop and in the Start menu.
Registering T4 TimeSaver
To register this copy of the program simply enter the unique authorization code issued to you by ELM Computer Systems. Until this code is entered, the program will print "VOID" on the slips and summaries, and the features of T4 TimeSaver Plus (magnetic media, partnership forms, multi-user capability, and import from text) will be unavailable. You may continue to use T4 TimeSaver without registering the program. All the data you enter will be saved. The opportunity to register will be available every time you start the program until registration has been completed.
Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader
T4 TimeSaver Plus uses the free Adobe Acrobat Reader for printing of most federal and provincial partnership forms. For best results you should have Acrobat 5.x or above. To install or upgrade Acrobat Reader you may run the Acrobat Reader install program AR500ENU.EXE located on the T4 TimeSaver installation CD, or you may download Acrobat Reader from Adobe's website www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. If you have difficulty downloading or installing the software, visit Adobe's website at www.adobe.com
Using T4 TimeSaver with Firewall Software
During our testing of T4 TimeSaver it was observed that a software-based firewall called Zone-Alarm attempted to block the software at certain points during data entry and at other points where the software needs to access the Internet.
T4 TimeSaver can be configured to access the Internet to check to see if a new version of the software is available. If you get a pop-up warning from your firewall when starting T4 TimeSaver, you will have to allow access to the Internet if you wish T4 TimeSaver to be able to check for program updates. Additionally, if you get a pop-up warning from your firewall when doing data entry you should respond that the action is to be allowed. T4 TimeSaver is not accessing the Internet at this time, nor is it doing anything which will harm your computer. It is merely attempting to focus data entry on the appropriate data entry field.
Using T4 TimeSaver with Windows Vista
T4 TimeSaver has been tested with Windows Vista. All testing to date indicates that T4 TimeSaver operates properly under Windows Vista. T4 TimeSaver may need to be installed using the administrator account. If you right click on the installation file, T4SETUP.EXE, you can select 'run as administrator'. You may have to supply the administrator password.
If T4 TimeSaver is installed on Windows Vista on the local hard disk, you must make sure that the user has full rights to the directory where the program is installed.
The default behaviour of T4 TimeSaver is to store XML submission files created by the software in a folder called MMFiles beneath the folder (directory) where the program is installed. Due to the new security features built into Windows Vista, the MMFiles directory will not be visible to the user if the program is installed in the Program Files directory on the Windows Vista machine.* In order to facilitate finding the XML submission files created by the program we have made provision to allow each user to override this path by accessing the User Setup function in the Setup menu and selecting the Magnetic Media Tab. This needs to be set up for each user of T4 TimeSaver.
* Note: In the case where T4 TimeSaver is installed on a Windows Vista machine in the Program Files directory, the MMFiles directory, user settings database and .INI files are actually stored in a directory called "c :\users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\T4 TimeSaver\2008\MMFiles ", where AppData is a hidden directory.
